NEW SODMY
(er, this was the first time I'd seen New Sodmy *ever*, and the first time I'd seen Kamijo and Mayu in a year and a half. So naturally I was a bit excited... ^^;) TEASE! TEASE! TEASE! Not nice to tease your fans like that! Not nice to wander over where their hands are reaching and deliberately hover half an inch away from the poor hands, swaying back and forth to make sure nobody can get close even if they leap forward, all the time with a naughty wicked grin on your face. Playing with us like that. Hmph.Tonight we were an audience of kittens, and Kamijo wielded his enticing cat-toys with expert finesse. It's also not nice to play a set that's too short. They only did "Cat Walk", "Advent", "Squall", "Audrey", and "Actor". Everybody agreed that it was too short. I mean, argh, we stood patiently through 4 other bands, all of whom played for longer, only to get 5 songs? Was this show a teaser to get us insanely worked up for the onemans? (Well, yeah, to be perfectly honest I guess it was, but still... I wanted more!) Tease! Anyway, on with my comments... first off, FANGIRL ALERT, you all know I'm a Kamijo fan, right? Might as well get that established. My mania's pretty bad to begin with and even when I'm standing in the back and have a full view of the stage I have trouble looking at anyone but him. However, after debating all through the first 4 bands as to whether I should stay at the front of the 2nd tier or try to squeeze my way through the front to get near the stage, I finally decided to go for the stage, with predictable results... squashed front and center with a view of nothing but you-know-who... So what did I get to see? *dies* I've said before that Kamijo's MUCH MUCH better looking in real life than he ever appears in photos, right? I cannot believe he's real. No real person should look like that. It's like he fell from outer space. He has the biggest eyes I've ever seen. Where did he come from?! *dazed* Right after the show, my friend Tomoko (who'd never seen or heard of New Sodmy) said in astonishment, "He's beautiful~". (It's not just me!) Anyway, he doesn't have multi-colored hair anymore. It's a lovely light-medium honey color with a few subtle hightlights. It's a really pretty color and suits him well. Also, it's grown a bit and he had it combed over the right eye and sort of flipped outward at the bottom, in a style that looked a little '60s-retro. He was wearing blue contacts, but they were darker and deeper than he's worn previously. They went perfectly with the hair. And he was wearing quite a bit of dark eye makeup, which even though it was applied in a really simple style (you could do this yourself in under a minute) looked really good on him. Around his neck were three strands of beads in a medium gray with a slight metallic sheen. As for clothes, he was wearing a long black zipper-up jacket (leather or a leather-like material) like the one in that old out-of-costume Vicious photo (it might have been the same one), and it was unzippered just enough to show that there was no shirt underneath. The bottom of the zipper was high enough to reveal the top of his pants, but I couldn't see his gyarandou. (^^;) His pants were a tight black snakeskin-type material with a flare at the bottom, and he had on a pair of black heeled boots with a low platform. Mayu was in full visual-style makeup and clothing. Was that all his real hair? I didn't think it was long enough to do that kind of pulled-up and teased-out style, but that's what he was wearing. His makeup was totally visual, like Lareine days. He was wearing a pair of short shorts with high boots (plenty of thigh exposed) and a long jacket or vest over it. (Sorry that I can't remember if I saw his arms or not, Kamijo-sama was right in front of me. ^^;) And you know how lately he's been looking cuter in photos? I guess it's because he looks cuter in real life. Mayu's just been getting really cute. ^^ Aya was very blond and very thin, in an elegant-looking black turtleneck. He seems very small and fragile... For some reason I had the idea that he'd be either a total nut or extremely cool and distant onstage, but he was neither. He seemed shy and unobtrusive. It's endearing, but it also makes it hard to pay attention to him when there are 3 other guys running around who are acting like they want you to notice them. Aya made Mayu look attention-hungry, that's how low-key he was. You was just like I expected. He didn't look any different from his recent pictures and wasn't wearing any special makeup or clothing. He seems friendly and like he's having fun onstage. There were several times when he got close to the audience and grabbed people's hands (unlike the 2 shy boys or Mr. Tease ^^;), but I couldn't reach. You's very genki. It makes him a perfect target for Kamijo's naughty attentions, because he'll take it all in the spirit of good fun and not be embarrassed or annoyed. There's no way mischievous Kamijo could resist such a nice target. (It's like Emiru's skirt -- how can you not want to pull it up?) Yes, that's right -- during the middle of the set Kamijo bent his head over You's neck and did some really fascinating-looking things. I saw 14 bands here in Japan before New Sodmy and none of them even came close to delivering that kind of thing! I mostly only saw the back of Kamijo's head, but according to Emmet: "I wouldn't be surprised if You had marks tomorrow." (Wish I'd gotten a better view. *_*) And of course everybody sang "Happy Birthday" to You. Anyway, I can't give any kind of objective report on the show for obvious reasons... As far as the music went, it all sounded good to me, everything as it should be. The crowd energy was sky-high around me, but of course I was with the die-hard fans who screamed "KAMIJO-SAMA!" at the top of their lungs after each song. There's a possibility that they may not have been quite so bouncy had I not been there (*cough*) but they were pretty energetic all the same. I think Mayu was using a synth guitar for at least part of the show, as it sounded more like a keyboard than a guitar. Lots of fun. Way too short! I can't wait for a full-length show! ^_^ |
